Pretty cool that the colors of the Italian flag represent sauce, mozzarella and green pepper!
I do know that the original U.S. flag was going to be brown, tan and yellow for the hot dog.........but it was just a little too dull so they abandoned the "food flag" motif.
The green color is actually basil. (Pizza Margherita) From an About.com article: http://homecooking.about.com/od/foodhistory/a/pizzahistory.htm The standard tomato, basil, and mozzarella pizza is first credited to Raffaele Esposito of the Pizzeria di Pietro, who dedicated the creation to Queen Margherita in 1889. The colors nicely coincided with the colors of the Italian flag.

Thanks. It is kind of nice when reality kind of coincides with the stuff we make up here.
