I have a hard time comprehending the mindset of a person who would put gold jewelry in to an envelope, addressed to a stranger, and just accept what that stranger says that gold is worth.
Don't people know that there are places you can take gold? Pawn shops, jewelery stores, whatever, and they tell you how much $ they're going to give you BEFORE you give them the gold. Who would trust these mail-in gold places?
