Thats funny because they wear them inside too. The new trend of wearing scarves is something reminds me of the people from middle eastern descent. I've been to Jordan and Iraq. They wear them inside too. I guess their going to have to find another one. It all comes down to religion and we don't believe in their prophet Mohamed and we eat pork so we are sinners.
That is interesting about your travels. Unfortunately, I don't think our cultures have much in common and yep a lot of that is probably due religious intolerance.
Maybe it is a little different for us because we live so close to a predominantly Arab city like Dearborn. That said, now that I think about it, I don't think I have one acquaintance who is of Arabic descent and that is a little sad.
I'm not Arabic, but my children are. My exhusband is Iraqi and I worked for a Lebonese man for 10 years so I am very familar with their culture/religion and some of the things they say. In Iraq, they seem to be hung up on Americans and their pre-marital sex, our religion, how we dress(they say we walk around naked) and we eat pork. In their religion those who eat pork are sinners because God turned all the sinners who fished on Friday(the holy day) into pigs and were to be banished to burn in the 7 layers of fire in hell and that is the story behind eating pork is a sin.
As you mention, the differences in cultures seem immense which I think is the crux of the problem. Not a whole lot of tolerance going around there but then again I know some pretty intolerant Christians as well.

Gotcha.
