Sean Hamill of the New York Times reports that Sidney Crosby's stick, gloves and puck that he used to score Canada's gold-medal-winning goal over the United States in the Olympics are missing.
During the celebration, we all saw Sid the Kid throw his stick and gloves into the air but that was the last time these were seen. They are nowhere to be found. No other Canadian player's equipment was missing after the game.
Hmmmm.
This reminds me of those rogue and very rich art collectors who pay people to steal a favorite Rembrandt or Picasso piece out of a museum that just happens to be "guarded" by 70 year old unarmed rent-a-cops. You get the piece and everything but you can't sell it for obvious reasons and all you can really do is look at it in solitude in your basement every now and then.
Same thing here. You can't sell Crosby's stuff and get anything more than "Play it Again Sports" will give you for used hockey equipment.
Ransoming the stuff is much too risky and stupid and puts you in the league of those "Home Alone" crooks.
You could have some very "private" showings of the stuff in your basement and only invite your closest friends but again this is VERY risky and also someone might spill a beer on it or burn it with a cigarette butt or something.
For all the hassle this stuff is going to bring you, you might as well just go to the nearest frozen pond and play with it.
You just can't have your cake and eat it too. You can't.
Not in Canada anyway.
