Debra, following up on your comment I did go to Wikipedia to confirm it truly was a classic. I did not know. I thought it was just another trashy pulp novel. Probably won't read it though.
It's having a big revival right now. Not in Canada (where it was first published about 30 years ago), but in the USA where it's just been "discovered."
That cover was unnecessarily lurid, I agree. The book caused outrage in Canada when it was first published but now everyone is pretty ho hum about it.
